When you lose someone dear, you’re overcome by a feeling of emptiness. Unfortunately, my grandmother passed last week. She had been suffering from Alzheimer’s for some time now and it’s been hard: now she can rest in peace.
I dedicate this poem to her, for all the good she’s done for others. She has always been there for me: when I needed to be picked up from school and brought to dance class; when I needed to talk; when I was hospitalised, when I was in rehab… And I’m glad I got a chance to take care of her the same way she took care of me.
“Grandma, I wonder
where you keep your wings.
Are they hung in your closet
with the rest of your things?
Do you put them away
and just use them at night
or give them to Rosie
to polish up bright?
I know you have wings,
for this must be true,
’cause God always gives
them to angels just like you.”

I will never forget you grandma and you will remain forever in my heart.
Yours sincerely,
Dysfunctional girl
